Influx's home town of Sausalito has always taken pride in its independence from San Francisco and in the past has made some significant contributions to culture; Fleetwood Mac's Rumors album (it was recorded here), the first internet community, The Welldeveloped by Larry Brilliant and Stewart Brand, who previously, together with Kevin Kelly, published The Whole Earth catalog. Going even further back to 1948, Rita Hayworth stared in The Lady from Shanghai, an Orson Welles picture, part of which was shot in Sausalito.

Influx's parent company, BSSP has been in Sausalito for 13 years. In 1999, we saw our share of dotcoms make the trek over the Golden Gate to set up their digs nearby, but they were gone by 2001 and things stayed quiet until this year, when it looks like Sausalito is going through a resurgence and becoming a cultural hub once again.

In the past year, Influx has been fortunate enough to meet some of our new neighbors at meetings and events, they are a collection of people who are at the forefront of a revolution in media and society, so we thought we should mention them and say how happy we are to have such inspiring and illustrious neighbors.

Millions of Us: One of the world's leading architects for Second Life environments. Recently gave Second Lives to Sun and Scion.

Federated Media: A one-stop shop for clients and agencies to buy advertising on some of the best blogs around. Founded by John Battelle who spoke at our M-Squared conference in October

Grouper: A Sony Pictures company at the forefront of Internet video sharing

Architecture for Humanity: Cameron Sinclair and Kate Stohr?s organization that helps architects donate their skills and time to worthy projects around the world

We wanted to take the opportunity to wish all our neighbors a happy holiday and are hoping that we can all get together for an event in 2007, so stay tuned.

If we missed any new Sausalito based companies or organizations that should be included; please feel free to add them into the comments section.
