This Sunday's New York Times had a good piece on how McDonald's is changing its image in Europe localizing menus, which it has done for years, but more recent efforts have been focused on store design. The article had a good slideshow, but I dug up some other examples, that show just how far the brand is pushing to be relevant in Europe. It's probably just a matter of time before some of these design initiatives come to the US.

To "woo" us?
It's probably only McD in the US that's having harsh times since most of the complaints of people getting fat and accusing McD for no reason at all come from there and not the EU It's a smart move adapting their menus to European culture as long as they don't overdo it in the way some have. No wonder this change came from a non-American president, had any American lived in Europe for 40 years he still wouldn't have quite grasped the changes McD needed to go through

Great design, cosy space, nice atmosphere. My question is it enough to make you want to spend more time inside the restaurante ... with the constant smell of fries? :)
