The Game - the rapper who hasn't paid his dues

Dr. Dre has launched the careers of many artists - Eminem, Snoop, 50 Cent, and now G-Units's The Game - a rapper representing Compton. His just released album, The Documentary, is already being talked about as one of the best in 2005. And like Eminem, he's also bringing on the controversy.

Hip-hop is about paying your dues personally and professionally. While The Game has had a gangster life, his rhyming career is barely two years old. Struggle has always been a critical element in becoming a rapper, and it's a quality that young people value in choosing the next superstar.

On the other hand, the album is full of references like Nas, Tupac, and the Notorious B.I.G., paying homage to his predecessors and proving his knowledge of the past. The question is, will this matter to the hip hop community? Will it matter to mainstream youth that subscribe to a hip-hop lifestyle?
