customized...
that's how we want everything nowadays
that
and cheap...
in today's society everything is computerized
plastic
and impersonal...
so in order to combat that
companies are giving you every possible opportunity to choose
or customize their product
as long as it's cheap to implement...
we've all seen this with my yahoo!
american idol
and shoes where you pick which colors go where...
all of the above products let you choose and customize...
a new twist of this vein has been added to the video game genre
Spore
this is the game of evolution...
you start with a 2D organism
a microorganism...
the goal at the start of the game is easy enough
stay alive...
you have to eat
and not be eaten...
if you do it well enough
you spawn...
this brings you to a menu where you get to choose
(depending on the points you've obtained)
how you evolve...
claws
tails
mouths
and teeth
legs
arms
shape
and feet...
and brains too...
you can create anything you want
there aren't any predefined creatures
looks
or movement
it's all your imagination...
customized...
the environment is then fashioned to co-exist
or house
the being you've made...
all creatures in the game are designed by other players...
everything is made by
and determined by
the users...
therefore very few computer artists are needed
or in other words
it's cheap...
the rest of the game follows the same pattern as you evolve into a 3D animal
a mammal
an intelligent being
a society
a civilization
a world power
a solar power
(no, not energy, you just travel through your solar system)
and finally a universal power...
the creators of this game have no idea how your game will evolve
all they do is give you a platform to construct an existence
they provide an engine
you choose what propels it
and in which direction...
the game is completely dynamic
every creature
every movement
every interaction
are all decided by how you choose to evolve
and how you interrelate with the environment...
you create the game
and you determine how it's played...
the only rule of the game is you must evolve to survive...
It appears you don't have Flash installed.
