Organic just wrote a great piece on their blog about brands on MySpace, where they include a list of brands and some metrics about the number of friends each brand has.

Scanning the data, one interesting trend emerges; entertainment is a lot more interesting than branding.

The top brands have tens of thousands of friends- Jack in the Box leads with 96,000, but these numbers are dwarfed by entertainment properties- Family Guy has 800,000 and the new X-Men movie has a staggering 3 million.

Interestingly, Jack has been widely described as one of the most entertaining characters in advertising and the brand's MySpace popularity could be attributed to the singular focus the brand has built around this character.

Influx's conclusion, if brands want more friends, they need to behave more like entertainers.
