A few weeks back, we wrote a popular post entitled "5 Reasons Why You Tube and Flickr are Successful",

Some of the themes from that post were repeated when Google CEO Eric Schmidt and YouTube co-founder Chad Hurley receently answered questions about the purchase.

"We're in the middle of a shift of digital media entertainment. From the beginning we've listened to our community. Users are in control. They decide what rises to the top, what's entertaining."

Chad Hurley

"(It's) not the business success, it's the vision of serving end users."

Eric Schmidt

"When we looked at the marketplace there was a clear winner in the social networking side of video, that's what really drove us to begin the conversations."

Eric Schmidt

Google is a company that usually buys technology and folds that into its strong brand, clearly they have an appreciation and value for the You Tube brand. Wisely, they will not be folding it into Google Video. The $1.6 billion is a high price, but this is because Steve and Chad managed to build a brand in just 18 months.

Again, the pursits will challenge this, they don't believe You Tube is a brand, just like they don't believe Google is one; because they have never seen ads for them or they don't really really know what they stand for.

Guys, it's time to wake up and come to terms with the new branding age, some of the rule books have been thrown out of the pram.

Today, it's what you do that matters way more than what you say.

Doing is now everything.
